How are alternate components evaluated?

An alternate is evaluated against the buyer's actual electrical, mechanical, firmware, environmental, lifecycle, qualification, and supply requirements. Similar descriptions or pin counts are not enough. Max can research candidate alternatives when permitted, but the buyer's engineering or quality team must approve any substitution before it is ordered or used.

The buyer problem

A candidate can look equivalent while differing in pinout, package, operating range, timing, firmware behavior, qualification, or regulatory status.

How Max approaches the request

  1. Confirm whether drop-in, form-fit-function, or redesign candidates are acceptable.
  2. Compare the candidate against the source part's datasheet and application constraints.
  3. Record assumptions, unresolved differences, and required validation.
  4. Keep alternate proposals separate from confirmed component identity and price.
