Date Code, Packaging, and Lead Time in Component Quotes

Direct answer

Why should component buyers specify date code and packaging in an RFQ?

Date code and packaging can determine whether otherwise matching material is acceptable. State those requirements before sourcing because a reel, tray, tube, cut-tape quantity, or date-code restriction can change available supply, minimum order quantity, price, inspection needs, and delivery timing.

Packaging is part of the offer

The same MPN may be offered as cut tape, full reel, tray, tube, or another packing format. Each variation can have different quantity increments, moisture handling, labeling, and pricing.

Date-code requirements need a written boundary

A broad age limit can exclude usable material or create avoidable scarcity. Buyers should define the actual requirement and whether manufacturer-sealed packaging, lot consistency, or customer approval of older material is relevant.

Any date-code condition accepted by Max Semiconductors is documented in the written quote and reconfirmed before fulfillment.

Lead time is offer-specific

Lead time should be tied to a source, quantity, timestamp, and stated assumptions. A historical or representative market report can inform planning, but it does not confirm delivery for a current order.

Frequently asked questions

Is cut tape the same offer as a full reel?
No. It may be the same canonical component, but packing format, minimum quantity, increment, handling, and unit price can differ and should be represented as a separate offer.
Does a website lead time guarantee delivery?
No. Delivery depends on the specific source, quantity, order timing, logistics, and stated conditions. A written quote should identify the applicable lead-time basis.
Can a date-code requirement be added after quoting?
It can be requested, but it may require re-sourcing or repricing. Stating it in the original RFQ produces a more comparable and supportable quote.
