Direct answer

What traceability should an electronic component buyer request?

Request traceability that fits the application and procurement policy: supplier identity, manufacturer or authorized-channel documentation when represented, lot or date-code information when required, packing and condition, and records connecting the offered material to its stated source. The quote should distinguish available evidence from unverified claims.

Traceability is not one universal document

The required chain depends on industry, end use, customer policy, and source. A buyer should define what evidence is mandatory before the sourcing desk compares options.

Claims that should remain separate

Manufacturer authorization, product authenticity, quality-system certification, compliance, date code, and stock availability are different claims. Evidence for one does not automatically establish the others.

  • Authorization evidence belongs to the represented supplier relationship
  • Compliance records apply to the identified product and revision
  • Date-code and lot evidence apply to the offered material
  • Availability and lead time require current offer evidence
  • Inspection results do not create manufacturer authorization

How the quote boundary protects the buyer

Max Semiconductors does not publish a certification or authorization claim without recorded evidence. When a documentation condition matters, the available evidence and unresolved conditions belong in the written quote before approval.

Frequently asked questions

Is a certificate of conformance the same as full traceability?
Not necessarily. A certificate may identify the seller and material, while full traceability requirements may demand additional records connecting the lot to the manufacturer or authorized channel.
Does inspection prove a distributor is authorized?
No. Inspection can provide evidence about the material examined. Authorization is a separate commercial relationship claim that requires its own evidence.
Where are evidence requirements recorded?
They should be stated in the RFQ and carried into the written quote, along with any unresolved condition that must be satisfied before fulfillment.
